Abstract
The article considers the development of the textile industry in the Ulyanovsk region during the eighth five-year plan. The materials of periodicals and archival documents, first introduced into the scientific circulation for the first time, taken from the fonds of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the State Archive of the Ulyanovsk region and the State Archive of Modern History of the Ulyanovsk region formed the source base of the article. The authors have considered the complex of measures carried out by the party bodies, aimed at the implementation of the construction program and modernization of the material and technical base of the textile industry of the Ulyanovsk region in 1965-1970; traced the dynamics of the textile industry, identified specific features and contradictions of its development; revealed the specifics of the staff of textile industry enterprises and described the conditions of production activity and everyday life of workers and engineering and technical personnel. As the author concluded, the eighth five-year period was a period of intensive development of the textile industry of the Ulyanovsk region. Thanks to the policy pursued by the party bodies, the textile industry of the region was able to cope with the plan approved by the party to increase the volume of production of the main types of products. Nevertheless, the rate of increase in the output of textile enterprises could have been significantly higher if the management of the prevailing share of enterprises had been able to solve the problems of staff turnover and equipment modernization in a timely manner.
