Abstract

Researchers who traced the origin of the tales of magic back to the times of the formation of the tribal system (V. Propp) or its decay (E. Meletinsky) assumed that tale plots were rather stable. This article aims at demonstrating the development of plot structures and the reflection of new social problems – the weakening relations among kin members and changing forms of marriage. The ancient tales may have been pragmatic works limited to one elementary plot or to simple structures of semantic pairs of elementary plots showing the opposing actions of two acting figures. The process of the formation of artistic tales with complicated structures was not even. Tales of magic and myths are spreading a heterogenous knowledge which they have accumulated.
