Abstract

This paper, drawing upon linguistic data from documents dated from the end of the Ming Dynasty to the beginning of the Republican era, analyzes the development of the suffixes li / neng / jiao when attached to reduplicated forms of monosyllabic adjectives in the northern Wu dialects.
