Abstract

Student personnel services represent a relatively new area of specialization for educators in Thailand. Drastic social and cultural changes, coupled with rapid economic development, have intensified students' needs for counseling and other guidance services. Education is now at a premium, and Thai youth view it as the key to better jobs, higher incomes, and more modern living. New emphasis on vocational education is finding its way into the secondary school curriculum. Counselor education programs at the graduate level have been developed to provide an increased number of school counselors. Problems associated with the growth of the counseling and guidance movement are discussed.
