Abstract

Abstract On December 2, 1976, Academician T. S. Khachaturov chaired a round-table conference of editors of the journals Voprosy ekonomiki [Problems of economics 3 and Planovoe khoziaistvo [Planned economy] on the development of production and trade i n consumer goods i n the Tenth Five-Year Plan. Representatives of Gosplan USSR and Gosplan RSFSR, state committees, ministries and agencies, research institutes, trade organizations and plants, other interested organizations, and the press took part in the conference. The basic purpose of the conference was to examine questions relating to the development of production and trade in consumer goods for the more complete satisfaction of the needs of the population i n accordance with the tasks posed by the Twenty-fifth Congress of the CPSU and developed in L. I. Brezhnev's speech at the October (1976) Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and to formulate proposals on the elimination of existing shortcomings. The problems dealt with at the conference were also associated with a number of practical questions relating to the realization of tasks outlined in the decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the USSR Council of Ministers "On the Development of the Production of Consumer Goods and Measures for Improving Their Quality between 1976 and 1980." Statements by participants in the conference are published in abridged form.
