The Development of Political, Civil and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and Children

Abstract

This chapter talks about the development of political, civil and economic, social and cultural rights and children. It briefs the interdependence of political, civil and economic, social and cultural rights. The Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC Committee) has stated that governments need to develop a national strategy or plan of action for children. The pre-existing environment that children grow up in is related to children's exposure and to the violations of children's rights in armed conflict. Within this context UNICEF developed the concept of qcreating protective environmentsq in order to prevent exposure of children and violations of children's rights in peace and in conflict. The chapter examines different forms of violence against children such as corporal punishment and harmful traditional practices. The chapter also briefs the human rights of children, child labor, children and justice system in Afghanistan. Finally, it presents the African report on child wellbeing.
