The pulse radar used in GPR can only investigate cavities within a depth of 3m. However, sometimes the GPR needs to detect cavities deeper than 3m. For this purpose, FMCW is used. We have developed a new FMCW radar system that can detect cavities deeper than 8m. This paper will compare our new FMCW radar with the old one. The new FMCW radar uses a beat signal as the reflected signal whereas, the old FMCW radar uses a phase signal as the reflected signal. The new FMCW radar has an important feature that enables it to detect underground cavities while the antenna is mounted on a moving vehicle.
