The development of national beekeeping associations in England. Study two: 1940–1990

Abstract

The first part of this two-part study (Bee World 76(4)) traced the history of the various national bodies working in the UK and, in particular, the British Beekeepers' Association (BBKA) from its London club beginnings into a body responding to Government demands at the opening of WW2. The key literature of the inter-war period was noted. In this second study the BBKA response to the war is examined as the principal ‘English’ association. The build up is noted of a national apicultural educational system which over the subsequent 50 years is progressively dismantled.
