Abstract
An overview is given of the scope and development of medical-pharmaceutical thought in China. The study of the Chinese medical-pharmaceutical literature can illuminate aspects of early Chinese culture, medical thought and scientific development. A discussion of Shen-nung, the concept of pen-ts'ao, is given.
