Abstract

Using identical stimulus material two verbal dichotic tasks, category- and rhyme monitoring, have been presented to adults and four groups of children, 16, 12, 10 and 8 yr old. The children were retested after 2 weeks and half a year. No systematic changes in magnitude and direction of ear advantage was found over subject groups, nor within subjects. Analyses of stability are presented of ear advantages over periods of half a year and during the performance of one dichotic task. Results are discussed with respect to possible interpretations of the right ear advantage phenomenon.
