Abstract

“Zhelezarna Ravne” is one of three metallurgical plants belonging to the “Slovenski metallurgical plants” association. The first electroslag (ES) products in Yugoslavia were produced here in 1973. The electroslag remelting (ESR) shop is equipped with a Soviet R-951 ESR furnace for the production of 400-mm diameter ingots, weighing up to 2 tons and using consumable electrodues with a maximum length of 5 m. In order to increase the capabilities of the installation, it was modified in 1974 by the introduction of short, movable freezer molds with round and square cross sections from 220 and 500 mm. The initial production technology was also modified in order to reduce slag consumption and electric power consumption.
