The development and operation of integrated automatic meter reading system in Shanghai

Abstract

City residences are highly dependent on certain key public services whose profits rely on the accuracy of meters. Based on achievements of the automation electric reading system in China power grid, State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company lead the integrated automatic meter reading pilot program in Pudong new district, Shanghai. This program supposed to bring the water and gas meter into the automatic reading system in a community of Pudong new district within 2014–2015 and establish a completely new, from meter reading section, billing section to user interface, integrated system. Applying multi-communicating method, the automation reading of water and gas meters has been achieved consisting a robust data transferring system. Now, this integrated system has operated over about a year which brings the real benefits for both enhancing the convenience of the residence and efficiency of the energy management in the community. In the near future, more communities in Shanghai would apply this novel system.
