Abstract

In this brief presentation on the development, management and results of treatment in the first year of operation of the Fertility Unit at the Humana Hospital Wellington, we have tried to give an overview of how we believe a large regional reproductive medicine centre could be managed and developed within the National Health Service. Such a centre should provide a comprehensive range of fertility treatment, preferably every day of the week. It would include the full range of treatment options including induction of ovulation, artificial insemination, tubal microsurgery, as well as IVF and the T-SET methods. The advantage to the patients would be considerable and it may even be possible to make financial savings compared with those expenses incurred by the unstructured infertility services offered at present.
