Abstract

Objective: A validated survey tool that concisely measures nurses’ values, knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) is needed to develop needs-based curricula for continuing nurse education. Purpose: Develop a succinct measurement instrument, the Quick-EBP-VIK, assessing nurses’ values, implementation and knowledge of EBP, to establish face and content validity. Methods: In Phase I-Review of the existing literature to establish topic domains, developed and refined questions. Phase II established face validity, and Phase III content validity using EBP experts as raters. Results and conclusions: Twenty-five questions met the clarity and relevance criteria with content validity indices of > .80. Questions were critically evaluated by EBP experts from both academic and clinical settings across the country for relevance and clarity and revised when indicated. The use of EBP experts and content validity indices resulted in a final survey instrument, measuring nurses’ values, knowledge and implementation of EBP.
