Abstract

Purpose : This study is to develop the alternative clinical practicum program for the delivery room and the newborn nursery, to compare a difference in academic self-efficacy, critical thinking disposition and clinical competence between the group, which received the alternative clinical practicum education, and the group, which acquired the clinical practice education. Methods : A research design is a non-equivalent control group pre-post test design quasi-experimental research. The research subjects included 20 students in the experimental group who participated in the on-campus practicum among seniors for the Department of Nursing Science at D university in A city and the 21 students in the control group who took part in the clinical practice. The research period was from February 1, 2021 to April 9. The collected data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0. Results : The academic self-efficacy(t=0.37, p=.708), the critical thinking disposition(t=-0.75, p=.451), the clinical competence(t=0.24, p=.806) between the experimental group and the control group had no statistically significant difference. Hence, the hypothesis was completely rejected. Conclusion : There is a need to grasp the essential contents to be experienced in clinical practice for improving the delivery-and-new born nursing competence in nursing students, to organize the practical contents of reflecting this, and to apply the on-campus practicum program together using a variety of the teaching & learning methods and the educational engineering technologies.
