Abstract

In quick-setting cements, setting may occur, wholly or partly, within the four minutes of the specified mixing time. The resulting structure, however, is broken by the mixing operation and the cements exhibit a normal, or near normal, setting. Hence, the use of the Vicat test (BS 4550: Part 3) for determining setting times of quick setting cements is not always adequate and may give misleading results.
