Abstract

This review present an overview of the problems encountered with the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in waste mineral oils. Some problems pertain to the legislative aspects of control of PCB in waste streams. The major problem in mineral waste oil analysis is the removal of interferences from the oil matrix. Two National Standard Methods for the determination of PCB in waste oils have been published until now and evaluated in intercomparison studies. The results of the latter are discussed. It is concluded that the use of one of these methods will succeed to quantitate individual PCB congener contents in the majority of waste mineral oil samples.
