Abstract

The arrangement of central primary follicles in the skin of sheep is one characterized mainly by a fairly even spacing between the follicle members. A simple model of determination proposed to explain the similar arrangement of abdominal sensory hairs in the bug, Rhodnius prolixus, has been examined quantitatively and found to account satisfactorily for the regular pattern of central primary follicles. The model has also been discussed in relation to the concept of prepatterns.
