Abstract

A method is proposed involving an initial separation of ammonia group elements by means of a succinate precipitation, followed by a spectrophotometric determination of magnesium with Titan yellow reagent; calcium interference is minimal. Satisfactory agreement with the pyrophosphate gravimetric method is obtained for a wide range of magnesium values in silicate and carbonate rocks.
