Abstract

AbstractA rapid method has been devised for the determination of lead in lead‐filled polyvinyl chloride compositions. The polymer is dissolved in ethylene dichloride and the lead extracted with strong hydrochloric acid solution. This hydrochloric acid solution is separated and diluted to 50% v/v strength with water prior to the determination of the lead by measurement of the u.v. absorption of the lead chloride complex at 270 mμ. A slight modification of the method avoids the interference of iron compounds which may be present in a composition.
