Abstract

The diacetyl-I-naphthol reaction for the estimation of creatine has been adapted to the Technicon AutoAnalyzer. Details are given for the estimation of creatine in serum or plasma, urine and muscle, and of phosphocreatine in muscle, with data on the recovery of added creatine from plasma and urine. In urine a small fraction of the creatinine is converted to creatine in the course of the analysis; for exact results the urinary creatinine should be determined and, from data obtained on pure solutions of creatinine, the recorded creatine corrected for the derived creatine. The urinary excretion of creatine by a number of normal young males was determined.
