Abstract

This paper examines the method of deriving magnetic scattering amplitudes from polarized neutron measurements and discusses the importance of the correction factors for incomplete neutron polarization, incomplete spin reversal and depolarization. A new method for the evaluation of the polarization is described and a correction for depolarization has been verified experimentally. A graphical method for the rapid evaluation of the magnetic scattering is proposed. The sources of experimental error have been studied and expressions for their magnitude derived.
