Abstract

In this work, the direct method and the linear differential scattering method were used to detect the experimental effective atomic numbers of some potassium compounds ( $$\hbox {KH}_{2}\hbox {PO}_{4}$$ , $$\hbox {KNO}_{3}$$ , $$\hbox {K}_{2}\hbox {S}_{2}\hbox {O}_{8}$$ , KOH, $$\hbox {K}_{2}\hbox {HPO}_{4}$$ , $$\hbox {K}_{2}\hbox {SO}_{4}$$ , KCl, $$\hbox {KIO}_{3}$$ and KI). The experiment has been done by using $$^{241}\hbox {Am}$$ radioactive source, a Si(Li) detector and an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (EDXRFS). The experimental effective atomic numbers were compared with the effective atomic numbers obtained using WinXCom, FFAST, non-relativistic theory (NRT) and relativistic theory (RT).
