Abstract

The purpose of the present research is to determine the personality characteristics value d necessary in the banking sectoro The personality characteristics necessary for competent bank personnel were determined based on the opinions of the participants of in-service training organized by Ziraat Bank Directorate of Educa-tion in 2002 - 2003 consisting of 417 bank personnel being employed in different positions in Ziraat Bank. Trait theories were based on the research and a personality adjective list consisting of 84 items was prepared by using the assumptions of these theories. Participants were asked to state their opinions based on the list prepared within the research and as the result of the analysis of the opinions obtained thorough the list, it was observed that 27 personality adjectives valued important by the bank employees elustered on two fundamental personality dimen-sions that are social and performance. Examined the content of the dimensions, it was found out that the social dimension of the personality consisted of integrity and competency in interpersonal relationship and performance dimension consisted of adaptation and task-oriented.
