Abstract

The paper is concerned with the first stage of the Bangkok expressway system, intended to play a major part in improvising the traffic conditions in that city, and covers the feasibility study of the whole of the first stage and the detailed design for the first two sections of this stage. It concentrates on the detailed design of the first section which includes about 7 km of dual three-lane viaduct with a completely elevated multi-level junction and about 2 km of expressway on low embankment built on very soft ground. The second section, which is briefly mentioned, has a further 4 km of similar viaduct and 4 km of expressway on low embankment with sundry overbridges. Arrangements for collecting tolls are also covered and the expressway lighting is described. See also TRIS 378111. (Author/TRRL)
