Abstract

The past decade has brought considerable advances in the design of interactive computer terminals. Considerable attention has been paid to ease and convenience of use for the human operator. Because the cost of computer hardware was usually the dominant factor in the overall cost of a computer system, international standards and conventions were adopted to assist the development of compatible equipment. It is obvious now that the design of supporting software is of equal importance for the successful development of interactive systems. The cost of software, being principally related to general salary levels, has now in many cases become the dominant factor determining the economics of the overall system. With the spectacular fall in the ‘real’ cost of computer hardware — particularly of solid state devices — and the increased power available, emphasis has shifted to the more efficient writing of programs and the adoption of standard systems which can be transferred readily between machines.KeywordsMedical InterviewHigh Level LanguageNorth Holland Publishing CompanySolid State DeviceFrame TypeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
