Abstract

A method of optimisation of parallel hole collimator dimensions is developed. The concept of a resolution index is replaced by that of a maximum object frequency which can be imaged. The collimator system is analysed using sampling theory in the same way as fibre optic systems have been analysed. In terms of transfer function theory, the fibre optic bundle is shown to be described by a special case of a more general equation, which describes the performance of parallel hole collimators.
