Abstract

The well known `SLAC Electron Trajectory Program' (EGUN) has been ported toPCs and has been developed into a family of programs for the design and the optimization ofparticle optics devices including electron and ion guns, beam transport sections and collectors. Wewill discuss the application of these tools for the design and the optimization of the essential partsof EBIS/T devices. The discussion will include conditions in which restrictions in the reliability ofsimulations may occur due to the mathematical modeling and how to overcome them.
