Abstract

A twin-rib waveguide optical switch is designed by the discrete spectral index method. An optimized rib height achieves a crosstalk level of less than −40 dB with a coupling length characteristic that is weakly dependent on the rib separation, hence providing a larger error margin in fabricating the waveguide switches. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
