Abstract

The factors governing the design of a reflex-klystron oscillator suitable for frequency modulation are discussed, and the conditions are considered which give maximum linearity between frequency and the modulating voltage applied to the reflector. Some associated practical problems and limitations are dealt with. Finally, a reflex-klystron oscillator is described which has been used as a transmitting valve, for frequency modulation, in a television relay link. The output from this valve is about 4 watts at 4 000 Mc/s.
