Abstract

Aim of study: Children with disabilities should have activities with sensory improvement possibilities within their playground. In this study, outdoor use of Doğan Çağlar Orthopedic Disabled School in Ankara province was determined. The main decisions on the environmental design project for the identified uses have been developed. Area of study: This study was conducted at the of Doğan Çağlar Orthopedic Disabled School located in Ankara, sits in the country’s central Anatolia region. Material and Methods: Face-to-face interview with school management, teachers and parents is preferred in order to contribute to the physical, emotional and social development of the children in school according to their disability and a survey was conducted with student parents. Main results: As a result, Related to landscape design and its applications of the school garden of disabled students, suggestions have been developed by taking the main decisions of the general design. The project drafting process to determine the main decisions of the design is as follows; determination of the problems for the purpose, data collection (questionnaire and evaluation) for determining the current situation, field analysis (creation of functions), taking design master decisions. Research highlights: It is necessary to plan according to different age groups and different physical characteristics, where children meet with nature, develop their creativity. School and garden spaces of children with disabilities should be different. Because the needs of children with disabilities according to their disability, firstly, their physical needs then psychologically shows differences.
