Abstract
The paper describes the design Arid testing of a. new typo of elect run gun suitable for use in either a gyrotron roil oscillator or amplifier tube. The gun is space el charge limited to reduce the noise produced by the usual temperature limited magnetron injection guns. It has been designed so that. the cathode size is independent of the final Beam diameter so the gun is as large as practical considerations dictate irrespective of the operating frequency and final beam size. It is controlled by a. low voltage grid and produces a hollow beam having uniform longitudinal and transverse energies.
