Abstract

Abstract Haymarket Center, a community based substance abuse treatment agency, has recently designed and implemented a Gambling Addiction Program. The population consists of male and female adults, with a primary substance abuse diagnosis. A variety of standardized instruments are being utilized, such as the South Oaks Gambling Screening instrument, and a facility based general assessment tool. The program has been integrated into our track system, which consists of lectures and group discussions. This is followed by further screening of identified probable pathological gamblers, individual counseling, and treatment planning. Initial data will be reported in addition to the presentation of a case illustration. Problem areas that have resulted in the initiation of this program will be enumerated and discussed. Recommendations will be offered regarding the resolution of these issues.
