Abstract
The concepts of ion-exchange and salt partition between immiscible electrolyte solutions at equilibrium have been employed as a model to explain the potential—activity characteristics of liquid state ion-selective electrodes based on dissolved “ion-exchangers”. Using the partition data of nitrobenzene/water system, we show the theoretical potential response of the system to the salt composition and discuss the selectivity behaviour.
