Abstract

We present studies on the linear polarized diffuse backscattering from turbid media by means of Monte Carlo simulations and experiments. A novel experimental setup using a simplified imaging system to record the polarized diffuse backscattering (PDB) patterns is reported. A method of Fourier analysis is introduced to extract the holistic characteristic of the PDB patterns. The analysed results show a linear relationship between the co-PDB patterns and the particle diameters of monodisperse polystyrene suspensions. It offers a new method for sizing particles of turbid media.
