Abstract

Near infrared Fourier Transform (FT) Raman spectroscopy has been used to study the degradation of industrial samples of poly(vinyl chloride). The advantage of the method in overcoming background fluorescence means that complete commercial polymer formulations can be investigated. Further, the FT-Raman technique provides a reliable and sensitive method for the detection and extent of polymer degradation through the formation of polyenes.
