Abstract

The research of degradation mechanisms of Inconel 690TT during fretting wear in air indicated that degradation mechanisms varied with the fretting regimes. In gross slip regime, the major degradation mechanisms were deformation, oxidation and delamination cracks in the worn subsurface. Delamination cracks in wear debris layer were inclined to nucleate at tribology transformed structure/wear debris layer interface as well as worn surface, accelerating the detachment of material. In partial slip regime, the major degradation mechanisms were deformed asperities at adhesion zone of worn center, oxidation at worn edge and fatigue cracks at the junction of adhesion/oxidation zone in the mode of transgranular and intergranular.
