Abstract
The Kateti shear zone is of exceptional interest because almost continuous exposures show a complete gradation over several hundred feet, from foliate granite through granulated and partly silicified rocks into banded quartz tectonites. The structures of the rocks occurring at Kateti suggest that this shear zone represents an intermediate stage in the development of more massive and continuous bodies of quartz rocks which are completely detached from the adjacent granite.
