Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a description and analysis of both the morphophonological processes in which the definiteness marker /l/ of Cypriot Arabic is involved, and the rules that are proposed to describe these processes. More specifically, we offer a thorough account of the allomorphs of this marker and of its phonological behaviour regarding the preceding or the following word. The analysis was primarily based on naturalistic data obtained from interviews with native speakers.
