Abstract

The article deals with the social framework for gender equality in modern Bulgaria. It focuses on the re-traditionalisation of the “social field” and of the efforts to restore patriarchy observed in the last ten years in Bulgaria. The article concerns the established symbiosis between religious and nationalist populist organisations in Bulgaria and explores the effects of their public rhetoric and joint actions aimed at restricting civil rights and creating conditions for authoritarian rule of a conservative nature; to comment on the specifics of the “Bulgarian case” in comparison with Hungary and Poland
