Abstract

In this paper, the ship-mounted cosmic muon detector designed at the Pacific Oceanographic Institution of the USSR Academy of Science and utilized for the purpose of developing optimal methods of registering charged particles by Cerenkov radiation under conditions of an intense light background in the ocean is reported. The principal electronic block diagrams and structural elements of the submersible detector are discussed, and an algorithm for recording cosmic muons is described which is based on exclusion of the ocean's high bioluminescent activity period from the instrument's exposure.
