The catalytic decomposition of t-butyl hydroperoxide by a dialkyl diselenide and by alkane- and arene-seleninic anhydrides and acids in benzene at 75° into, solely, t-butyl alcohol and oxygen, is described. A free-radical mechanism is proposed.
