Abstract

Complex, multidimensional problems often require collaboration to arrive at the solution that is most effective. However, collaborative decision making can present challenges when members of the group disagree, potentially leading to delays and impeding the successful implementation of the desired solution. Failing to implement a solution in a timely manner, especially in the field of health care, is a challenge that can have negative impacts for both patient care and financial goals. Some of the issues related to the process of collaborative decision making include group members not having equal say, group think, group members having different ideas about the best way to select a solution, and certain group members favoring one solution over another [ 1 Tsai W.H. The current focus on quality improvement in health care has led our institution to explore ways to make decisions faster and more effectively in an effort to promote timely, systemwide change, while maintaining the support and “buy-in” of the all-affected team members.
