Abstract

The half-life of the 205.9 keV state in 159Ho is found to be 8.30 ± 0.08 sec. Studies of γ-ray singles spectra, conversion electron spectra and γe − coincidences show that the 206 keV transition is paralleled by a 40 keV M3-166 keV El cascade of ≈ 5% intensity. The three levels are identified with Nilsson Orbitals 1 2 + [411], 7 2 + [404] and 7 2 − [523] and their spacing indicates a quadrupole deformation of ϵ ≈ 0.25. The half-life of the 211.2 keV state in 161Ho has been measured with improved accuracy and is found to be 6.73 ± 0.10 sec.
