Abstract

Arsenic 80 has been produced by the 80Se (n, p)80As reaction induced by 14 MeV neutron irradiation of natural Se and enriched 80Se samples. The β- decay to 80Se (t1/2=15.3 sec) has been investigated by scintillation spectrometry using β-γ and γ-γ coincidence techniques. The γ-ray spectra are interpreted in terms of levels in 80Se at 0.66, 1.44, 1.52, 1.77, 1.88, 2.30, 2.50 and 3.01 MeV. The β-transitions to the ground and first excited states of 80Se (log ft values 5.8 and 5.9 respectively) are probably allowed, giving spin 1+ for the ground state of 80As.
