Abstract
In the present paper, we consider the cylindrical/spherical nonlinear Schrödinger equation(cylindrical/spherical NLS). In order to obtain the solutions of cylindrical/spherical NLS, the general variable coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation with gain/loss term has been investigated by using transformation of dependent variable. Under certain constraint condition on the coefficients of the equation, the exact solutions of the general variable coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation with gain/loss term are exactly derived, and then the decay mode solutions to the cylindrical/spherical NLS are obtained.
