Abstract

The aim of the present paper is the calculation of the unilateral contact stresses between the cylindrical vessels and the saddles by formulating the linear complementarity problem (LCP). Both the theories of Flügge and Sanders are applied for the consideration of shell behaviour. The LCP problems are solved by using the Mangasarian algorithm, the flexibility coefficients being obtained for both shell theories by using the method of double Fourier series. Numerical applications are given for different sizes of saddles and a comparison between the results of the two shell theories are shown and discussed.
