Abstract
This personal essay outlines the ways in which debate has developed and functioned over time. It focuses upon the performative nature of much of what passes for ‘debate’ in the current Scottish Parliament. It suggests ways in which parliamentary business could be reshaped towards more meaningful and productive exchanges of opinion and evidence.
