Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores the period during which Howard was working on the book that outlines the Garden City idea, To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform which was published in 1898. Family issues, the support of Lizzie Howard, and that from London’s Congregational community are discussed, together with Howard’s interactions with London’s land and housing campaigners. Howard’s promotion of his ideas through public meetings and talks in churches are highlighted, and the early drafts of the book are discussed. The content of the book is analysed, together with its launch and reception at Rectory Road Church, and the publication of the revised edition, Garden Cities of To-morrow in 1902.
