Abstract

When it comes to data binding, not all ASP.NET controls are created equal. In the last chapter, you saw how data binding could help you automatically insert single values and lists into all kinds of common controls and even ordinary HTML. In this chapter, you’ll concentrate on three more advanced controls—the DataList, DataGrid, and Repeater—which allow you to bind entire tables of data. These controls are sometimes known as template controls because they allow you to use significant formatting and customization features by creating templates. Some of these controls even have additional built-in functionality for selecting, editing, and sorting the displayed information.
